On many farms the weather coincided with lambing season, when newborn lambs and sheep are particularly vulnerable.
The Ulster Farmer's Union (UFU) said farmers had "borne the brunt" of the weather with large numbers of sheep and lambs perishing in the severe conditions.

元々あの辺りの冬は寒いモノですし、羊もあまり強い生き物ではないのですが、今年の冬の寒さは厳しく、多くの羊や仔羊が亡くなっているそうです。
特に酷いのはSperrinsやstraddling Counties Tyrone and Derry、Glens of Antrimなど。
Sperrinsでは、130頭の羊が亡くなっているという報告もあるそうです。
スコットランドでも同様のひどい天候が続いているようで、畜産農家の人たちは政府に融資の援助を求めているようです。
これだけモコモコの羊ですら生きるのが辛いほど寒い世界とか考えるだけで恐ろしいですが、現実に存在しているんですよね。
日本にいると厳しい気候というのがフィクションにしか感じられなくて困りますね。
